“Where better to learn English than in England’s historic heartland in the county of William Shakespeare!”
This attractive slogan is cited from the CERAN, an online language studying agency.
Indeed, for many people “where to learn” is a matter. They do believe English speaking cosmopolitan cities, such as London will be the best place for learning English.
And this explains that each year there are ten thousands of overseas students enrolled on English language courses, taking part in school exchanges, or studying at the British outposts of foreign universities. (the Guardian)
To study or not to study...
“Studying English in London is a very different experience,” says Sunil Kumar, an international student who has attended the English course for international students at the University of Westminster, London.
Although Sunil has learnt English in India from kindergarten, he still believes attending language school is “somewhat effective”.

“You can get to practice and experience the English language in language school, although the level of your classmates’ proficiency varies, it’s still a good place for making friends.”
He also thinks the British accent is another factor that attracts the international crowd. As he says, “The accents are different, since this is the home of the English language, it is of some use and relevance.”
However, according to Brian Smith, a retired English language teacher, simply taking part in training courses two or three times a week is far from enough to master the English language.
“It is important to immerse yourself in an English speaking environment, in this sense, learning English in London is a plus. But what more importantly is your studying initiative."
“Go outside, talk to people, study in actual practice, that’s the most efficient way of English learning.”
